Chiang Chen Technology Achievement Awards

Since its establishment in 1991, the Chiang Chen Technology Achievement Awards program has honored Chinese scholars and industrialists who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of machinery, manufacturing technology and industry in Greater China.

Each recipient receives a trophy,
a medallion and a cash prize of US$100,000

Once every two years, one to three awards are presented at the opening ceremony of the International Conferences on Manufacturing Technology hosted by the Foundation. Recipients should be of Chinese origin, though not necessarily a passport holder or regular resident of Mainland China, Hong Kong SAR or Taiwan. If more than one recipient is selected.

Professor Yan T. Lee, the first Chinese scientist to win the Nobel Prize in Chemistry and President of Academia Sinica, Taiwan and a former Director of the Foundation, was the Award Committee Chairman from1991 to 1998. The1997 Recipient Dr. Stan Shih, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Acer Group in Taiwan, was the Awards Committee Chairman in 1999. Prof. Yong-Xiang Lu, President of the China Academy of Sciences, and Prof. Charles HC Kao, Honorary Professor of University of Wisconsin, U.S.A, were the Awards Committee Chairman in 2001 and 2003, respectively. The Foundation invited technological and industry leaders with international reputations to serve on the Awards Screening Committee and the Awards Panel of Judges. From 1991 to 2003, 14 prominent individuals of Chinese origin received the awards.

Categories of Achievement

A nominee is an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the development of the manufacturing technology and industry of Mainland China, Hong Kong or Taiwan within 5 years before the nomination. In addition, his or her achievement must have been applied successfully to enhance the development of manufacturing technology or industry. The award is divided into three categories:
