Training in Overseas

The overseas training programs of the Foundation were initiated in 1993 in the form of scholarships to support selected recipients to undertake a one-year machinery and manufacturing related study program outside China. A total of 13 engineers received the scholarship. Twelve of them went to the U.S.A. while one went to the U.K. for studies.

The Foundation recognized from its inception that overseas training courses provide opportunities for executives to study abroad and then apply their acquired know-how to local industry when they returned home. Since 1994, the Foundation offers a number of specially designed certificate-training courses with three well-known universities in Europe and the U.S.A.. Lasting 6 to 11 weeks, these certificate-training courses include “Strategic Manufacturing Management”, “Design Strategy and Management”, “Industrial Production and Management” and “Manufacturing Leadership Training”. By the end of 2003, the Foundation had conducted 46 overseas training courses. A total of 829 senior executives from Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan attended these training courses. Among them, 423 participated in 27 courses at the University of Warwick in the U.K., 123 in five courses at the University of Southern California in the U.S.A., 133 in seven courses at Aachen University of Technology in Germany, 48 in two courses at the University of Manchester in the U.K, and 48 in two courses at the George Washington University in the U.S.A., 14 in one course at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the University of Michigan, U.S.A. and 27 in one course at the University of Alberta, Canada.

A total of 829 participants from a wide variety of positions attended the overseas training courses. They came from different regions of the China. Until now, feedback from the participants has been very positive. They felt that they could apply what they have learnt to their day-to-day work. Many participants were promoted soon after returning to their workplace.
